In collaboration with Ting-Sung Hsieh from Vincent Tagliabracci's lab at UTSW, we show that a minimal lipid kinase/phosphatase system, two effector proteins from Legionella pneumophila, self-organizes together with its lipid substrates (PI/PI3P) into dynamic patterns on membranes. Ting-Sung and I reconstituted the self-organization of MavQ and SidP on model membranes. Qiwei Yu, Jon Yuly, Yigal Meir and Ned Wingreen developed a reaction-diffusion model predicting that lipid conservation on the membrane leads to reflection of MavQ/SidP waves at physical barriers which we then confirmed experimentally. Together with James Pfister, Yinhao Wu and Junzhou Huang.
